Tips for Embracing Fall

As the weather cools down and leaves turn vibrant shades of orange and red, it’s the perfect time to transition your home decor for the fall season. Fall is one of my favorite times of the year because it gives us the opportunity to embrace warm, inviting, and cozy elements that make our spaces feel like a comforting retreat. Below, I’ve gathered some of my favorite fall decor ideas that will help you transform your home into an autumn haven.

1. Rich, Warm Color Palette

One of the easiest ways to bring the fall season into your home is by swapping out your summer hues for a more fall-inspired palette. Think burnt oranges, deep burgundies, mustard yellows, and warm browns. These colors evoke a sense of warmth and can be used throughout your space in throw pillows, blankets, and even art prints.

2. Pumpkin Accents

What says “fall” more than pumpkins? Whether real or faux, pumpkins are a must-have for fall decor. You can find ceramic or wooden pumpkins in neutral shades for a minimalist look or opt for traditional orange ones to give a pop of color. My shop has a large selection of various pumpkins such as glass, ceramic, felt, and wooden. Each of the items in this shop are hand-selected and things I use in my house throughout the year!

Line them up on your mantel, use them in a centerpiece, or place small ones on side tables or shelves for a subtle nod to the season. This fall tablescape has a wide variety of pumpkins used and shows how beautiful an assortment of pumpkins can make any space.

3. Cozy Throws & Pillows

Layering throws and pillows is an excellent way to instantly warm up any space. Look for soft, chunky knits or faux fur textures to add comfort. Throws in autumnal colors like rust or earthy greens draped over your couch or armchair not only add style but also invite you to snuggle up on chilly nights.

4. Rustic Elements & Natural Materials

Fall decor thrives on natural, rustic vibes. Incorporate wood, wicker, and metal elements to add warmth and charm. Consider swapping out your modern decor for a more cozy cottage-inspired look by adding wood vases or pots, Fall stems or branches, or wicker baskets filled with cozy blankets.

6. Festive Wreaths & Door Decor

Don’t forget about your entryway! A fall-themed wreath can make your home feel welcoming before guests even walk through the door. You can find wreaths adorned with dried leaves, berries, pinecones, or pumpkins to match your fall aesthetic.

7. Harvest-Inspired Centerpieces

If you enjoy hosting fall gatherings, a harvest-inspired centerpiece is the perfect way to dress up your dining table. How To Create a Festive Fall Paper Plate Tablescape

Have you ever wanted to set a pretty table using just paper plates? As much as I love using real dishes and setting a pretty table, there is a definitely a time and place for keeping it simple and using paper goods! Thats why I’m sharing how to create a festive fall paper plate tablescape and showing you how to create one that will have everyone talking!

A few weeks ago, I was invited to attend a retreat in the mountains of Utah and the ladies organizing it asked me if I would decorate the tables for the retreat. I said yes, and this is what I came up with. I knew the retreat was in a farmhouse style vacation rental and with it being fall, I wanted to do something that would be that farmhouse style with a fall-ish vibe.

Planning the Tablescape

When deciding what to create for a tablescape, I always try to find one thing that is the inspiration for the color palette and this one was no exception. I found these black and white checkered cardboard charger plates and designed everything else in the table decor around that.

The party store I went to was limited on some of the fall themed paper plates and other items so I had to get really creative. I wanted to have the plates stack just like I normally do with real dishes in my other tablescapes. I found the combination of yellow and black and then bought the dinner, salad, and dessert paper plates to match.

I then added in matching plastic utensils, black drinking cups, and then double layered black and yellow napkins together and stuck those in the cups with a black and white paper straw.

I then bought matching yellow and black M&M candies and filled up the little white and yellow paper ice cream cups with the candies and placed them on top of the plates. Everyone loved this and that they each had a little treat to snack on!

The Centerpieces

For the centerpieces, I used a yellow and white colored fabric table runner. I bought these at Homegoods and they were the only thing I used on the table that was not paper or plastic. I had purchased some black and white checkered paper table runners and decided to use these other fabric ones instead. I just liked the way it looked more but, paper/disposable table runners are not hard to come by so you can do it either way.

On top of the table runner I placed a faux-greenery garland and fluffed it up a bit to make it fuller. Always fluff your faux greenery and flowers. I then took a plastic black cauldron (halloween decor)and filled it with faux marigold flowers and faux yellow sun flowers. I had to make two identical tablescapes and this was easy to replicate.

Last, I added in some of the same yellow marigold and yellow sunflowers into the garland and then finished it off by adding in yellow, black, and white velvet pumpkins.

This was so much fun to create and everyone loved it! Some of the items that are disposable are things that can be used again if cared for after the party. I saved the chargers and all the faux flowers to be used again, and if you have seen any of my other fall tablescapes, you can see how often I’ve reused the velvet pumpkins.

I hope you enjoyed seeing how I created these farmhouse-fall themed tablescapes. It was so much fun to decorate the tables and to see how creative I could get with using paper plates!

SIMPLE FALL TABLESCAPE

I’m sharing 10 of the best Fall Themed Tablescape ideas all in one post! I thought it would be fun to put them all in one post and hopefully these will inspire you to create a Fall Themed Tablescape of your own.

Many of these tablescapes have pumpkins, some have fall colors, some have turkeys for Thanksgiving, and some are all of the above! All of them can be used for Thanksgiving or during the Fall season. l will share a little bit of information about each tablescape below and you can click on each link for all the details of each one!

This burnt orange and tan pumpkin themed tablescape is still one of my favorites ever! The dishes have pumpkins painted on them and I just love the color combo. I also love the velvet pumpkins nestled into the garland centerpiece.

This tablescape is a mix of old and new dishes. I mixed my vintage Limoges Haviland gold and white scalloped plates with some newer solid green dishes. The top plates with the gold pumpkins on them are from my local Fred Meyer/Kroger Co. grocery store!

I actually created two tablescapes using two sets of dishes. This is another one of my “end of summer and transition into fall” tablescapes. There’s no pumpkins or turkeys in the garland but you could easily set this tablescape for early fall and then add some thanksgiving touches with pumpkins and turkeys.

I set one tablescape outside for the kids and one inside for the adults. I alternated the plates from the two sets of dishes and made it possible to create enough place-settings for sixteen people. This is a great way to make enough place settings when you don’t have enough dishes for a larger group.

This blue and orange tablescape sort of came about on accident. I never intended it to turn out this way but nothing I had planned to do was working and so I started playing around with different dishes I had and this is what came about. I used paper placemats that added a pop of color to the table. The garland is full of velvet pumpkins, faux flowers, and faux blueberries.

This one was so much fun! I took a poll on my Instagram stories to see how many liked it and 10% of the people who answered didn’t like it! Hahaha, that’s ok, because I liked it and 90% of the people I asked did too. Can’t please everyone! LOL! I did two variations of it! With and without the bowls. Which do you prefer?

Black, Yellow, and White Cabin Tablescape

Every summer I set a new tablescape at our cabin in Montana. This is the one I did this year (2020). I put the leaf of the table in to make it seating for eight and the theme was black and white check with a touch of mustard yellow. I foraged for some wild grasses and flowers around the cabin and that became the centerpiece. I love how this one turned out!

Here is another variation of the green and gold pumpkin tablescape above. I changed out the top plate for these green and gold pumpkin plates and changed out the napkins and drink-ware. I love how simple it was to switch things up.

This is what I jokingly call my turkey tablescape! I love the using the turkey shaped serving pieces as part of the tablescape. I also used some tan colored velvet pumpkins and the little turkey placard holders. The turkey shaped salt and pepper shakers also made it perfect for Thanksgiving.

One thing I like to do is to set a table for Thanksgiving and then take out any of the decor that is thanksgiving or fall related and swap it out for Christmas. Here I used my fine china and added some silver mercury pumpkins and silver turkeys into the garland centerpiece. When Thanksgiving was over, I took all that out and added in some silver mercury ornaments and it became my Christmas tablescape.

This is an outdoor, end of summer and transition into fall tablescape that I set for a dinner party in my backyard at our home in Washington. This is in my top five of favorite tablescapes. It was recently published in American Farmhouse Style magazine. I created this tablescape with the help of my friend Amy Brown who owns Laughing Goat Flower Farm. I cooked some of my homemade recipes with veggies from my garden and Amy’s farm and we created the centerpiece and garland with flowers and greenery from the farm and my backyard. This was so much fun and I wish I could go back in time to this day!

Green and Gold Fall Harvest Tablescape

One of my favorite times of year to decorate and create tablescapes is Fall. There are so many beautiful colors to play with and pumpkins seem to come in all sorts of colors, sizes, and velvet! Who doesn’t love a velvet pumpkin?!! This Green and Gold Fall Harvest Tablescape if full of dark green velvety pumpkins, beautiful faux flowers and some of my treasured dishes.

I love adding other elements in the dining room to compliment the tablescape. You can never have enough velvet pumpkins so I added more brown colored velvet pumpkins below this beautiful wood sign from Teal Barn Signs (link for this sign is at the end of the post in the slider with photos of items). To add some color to the space below the sign, I put some of the leftover flowers from the garland centerpiece in a galvanized tin bucket and set it on an old antique crate.

The Place-Setting

For the place-setting I used my dark green dishes layered with my favorite antique limoges haviland gold and white plates. I like mixing the old with the new.

I used gold flower shaped placemats, gold flatware, a gold rimmed goblet and a dark green cloth napkin and gold napkin ring.

I added in accents of gold all throughout the table. Even the charger has gold antiquing on the edges.

The Garland Centerpiece

I like creating long garlands to fill up the middle of the table. My table is a large trestle table and I like the way it looks when there’s not a lot of open space on the table when I create this type of tablescape. I don’t typically put my food on the table as it’s easily stained so if you prefer to add the food to the table you can use matching serving pieces and make the centerpiece or garland smaller.

Another reason I like to do it this way is that it keeps the decor lower to the table so when you’re seated for dinner, you can see the people across from you. A centerpiece should draw your eyes to it but not block your view of the other guests.

I like to create a little more height in the center of the garland and then let it taper off to the end. For this tablescape, I put the largest green velvet pumpkin in the middle of the garland and then the smaller ones off-set throughout the rest of the garland.

I started with a base green garland and then going in opposite direction from the center on each side I layered in different faux green stems and white flowers.

Then I added a few more green velvet pumpkins, gold candlesticks with ivory taper candles and gold votive candles filled in the rest of the open spaces.

Final Details of the Green and Gold Fall Harvest Tablescape

I always say the beauty lies in the details and if you look closely at all the little details I think you’ll agree with me! Here you can see one of the little details where I mix the old with the new is the antique green salt and pepper shakers. These were a gift from my mom. She is a dish lover too, so adding these onto the table reminds me of her and all the fun times we’ve had hunting for dishes in antique stores.

Another little detail I added was these gold and white bread plates that said “harvest” and “gather” on them. I alternated them on each place-setting and it brings in the fall element to the table. They also paired perfectly with the gold and with antique plates.

The last detail was adding these white and green velvet pillows to the end chairs. They paired perfectly with the green velvet pumpkins and it’s the final piece to the entire tablescape that makes it perfect for a fall family gathering around the dinner table.
