The Most Beautiful Living Room Decorated for Christmas

‘Tis the season to be jolly, and what better way to embrace the holiday spirit than by adorning your living room with the most beautiful and elegant Christmas decorations? In this blog post, I’ll be sharing my Christmas decor in my living room decorated in shades of light pink and gold. From the flocked Christmas tree adorned with pink and gold accents to the fireplace mantle, I’ll share all the big and little details on how I decked out the halls for this holiday season. Did I mention that my name is Holly and I was due to be born on Christmas day so my parents named me Holly…….and then I married a guy with the last name Jolley! Yep, I’m Holly Jolley! So when I say have a Holly Jolley Christmas, I really mean it, literally!

The Christmas Living Room Color Palette

Today I’m sharing my Christmas living room décor with shades of light pink and gold – an unconventional yet beautiful color scheme that transformed my living room into a sophisticated winter wonderland. Bid farewell to the traditional Christmas colors and see all the details of my holiday living room adorned with delicate hues of pink and gold accents.

I will link as many of the items I used to create this look throughout the post and at the bottom of the post so be sure to scroll down.

My little bernedoodle Copper always loves to pose for my photos on the settee! I wish I could share the source for this but it was discontinued many years ago. It was purchased from Gatehouse in Orem, Utah.

The Living Room Christmas Tree

I absolutely love having a flocked Christmas tree! My husband despises the flocked trees but he always manages to help me put them up even though they make quite a mess! My tree is a 12′ Flocked Long Needle Pine. It comes pre-lit but I’ve learned that the lights rarely work so I add my own lights to the tree.

I always use a lot of ornaments when I decorate my trees and it’s surprising how many a big tree holds! I love adding ribbon throughout the tree and it’s one of my favorite ways to fill in any holes and add more color to the tree. Another way to add color and fill holes is to add berries, flowers, and some type of greenery or branches to the tree. For this tree, I used frosted gold eucalyptus, gold bay leaf sprays and other gold-colored cedar branches as well as weeping snowy pine cone branches.

For the top of the tree, I used some gold feather picks and more gold-frosted eucalyptus.

I always match my wrapping paper to the tree and colors that I decorate with to create a cohesive look. This year I used nesting boxes, gold and white gift boxes as well as pink, gold, and white wrapping paper with lots of ribbon in the same colors. I love how it looks when the presents match the tree. Here are some of my favorite wrapping paper and ribbon to wrap presents with! I also added more at the bottom in the shop my post section.

I used a four-inch wide gold-edged velvet ink ribbon for the tree. I cut long strips of the ribbon and then tied a green floral wire in the center of the ribbon and then wired it into the tree.

I used a variety of blush pink, gold, antiqued gold, bronze, and copper colored ornaments. I loved the variety on the tree. It’s amazing how many ornaments it takes to fill a up a 12′ tree!

The Christmas Living Room Accents

I also added other pink and gold accents to the living room to tie the tree and mantle together which makes it all cohesive. One thing I always love to add to the coffee table and shelves is a flower arrangement. I made this simple one using these Snowy Pink Peonies, Snowy Peony Spray, and Snowy Hydrangeas. I also added some other decorative accents like this gold deer head and a snow globe.

I also love to add in vases that match the decor colors and then I added in some reindeer, pink throw pillows and pink throw blankets. It adds more warmth and coziness to the room. Here’s a few from my shop HollyJHome.com but I added more options down below in the Shop The Post Section.

From the Christmas lights to the holiday cheer, we are all looking to add a little festive feel to get us in the holiday spirit.

When we think about how to setup our holiday decor to bring about a merry Christmas, the typical Christmas decorations, and what you probably did last year, typically happen in the living room, dining room, or front porch.

But, what about creating a winter wonderland in the bedroom? This could be in a guest room, master bedroom, or kids room.

There’s no need to go overboard; a few simple additions can make all the difference in adding a little Christmas cheer to your home this Christmas season the easy way.

Here are a few ideas to get you started.

Choose a cozy Christmas bedroom color scheme.

First things first, pick your color scheme. This could be the same color scheme you use year round or updated to be a little more festive

You’ll want to choose a palette that reflects the overall tone of the holiday season.

You could do a color scheme with white, red, and a touch of black like Rachael from This Is Our Bliss did in her bedroom above.

For example, if you’re going for a more traditional look, you might opt for bright reds and lush greenery like Jenn and Vicki from 2 Bees in a Pod have in their guest bedroom.

However, if you’re looking for something a little more unique, you could try a blue and mustard color scheme like I have here.

Or you could go with an all white color scheme like Maria from Pure Happy Home did above.

Whatever you choose, you’ll need this step before heading in to my next tip… adding a tree.

Add in a bedroom Christmas tree.

Once you have your color scheme, you’ll want to use it as the baseline for decorating your bedroom Christmas tree.

If you don’t have the space for a full-sized tree, you can always opt for smaller table-top mini trees or even a half-tree like Christin from My Homier Home used in her guest bedroom.

Or for a children’s room, you can choose a 4-foot tree that has a smaller profile like the one Colleen from Lemon Thistle has in her daughter’s room.

A set of bottle brush trees with string lights, like what I have in the lanterns are a great way to add Christmas trees to the mix.

Choose ribbon and ornaments that complement your color scheme.

Add simple beaded garland for an elegant touch.

You could even keep the Christmas tree naked in all it’s twinkling glory like Shannon from Fox Hollow Cottage did in her master bedroom.

Adding a Christmas tree to your bedroom will bring all the festive Christmas charm to your mornings and evenings. Such a great way to get in the holiday mood.

Add festive elements around the room.

Next, you’ll want to add little touches of the holidays throughout the room.

A simple way to add your festive colors is in the right bedding or throw blanket add to the end of the bed.

You could even add a Christmas wreath or evergreen garland like I have on the mantel or to the top of the headboard. Accent pillows go a long way in adding Christmas spirit too.

Don’t forget to add miniature Christmas trees to your lanterns or a small reindeer figurine to your bedside tables.

You could also DIY some beautiful wood snowflakes to add to the mix like Zoe from Pine and Poplar did above.

From your bedding to throw pillows to artwork or night stand, adding a few beautiful holiday additions will add a simple festive touch to your room.

Make time to snuggle up by the glow of the tree

Finally, don’t forget to make time to cozy up by the glow of your Christmas tree.

Whether you’re reading a book, chatting with friends, or simply enjoying the quiet of the season in your personal silent night. This is a great way to relax and enjoy the holidays.

I found these darling red truck Christmas dessert plates a few years back in Cracker Barrel and instantly knew I had to have them for a red truck Christmas tablescape! Sadly they were only there for a season but I’ve sourced some similar ones and linked them throughout the post and at the bottom. Just click on the images to get to the sources.

The Beautiful Plate Stack

I really mixed things up for the red truck Christmas tablescape! The red truck plates are a bit farmhouse-ish so I added in other elements that were similar to create this tablescape.

Since Cracker Barrel only had the salad/appetizer sized plates and didn’t have the dinner sized plates I paired the smaller plates with some red ones I already had to create this place-setting. I used a rattan placemat and an off-white scalloped charger with gold accents to complete the place-setting. To add some green into the mix, I added a solid green colored napkin under the salad plate. This is a good way to add the napkin into the place-setting and break up the colors between the plates. It’s also a good way to hide any wrinkles in your cloth napkins!

The Simple Accents

I also bought two of the matching red trucks at Cracker Barrel when I found the plates. I knew these would be perfect to place at the end of the garland centerpiece I used in the middle of the table. The only thing I wish I’d had to compliment the red trucks are some matching salt and pepper shakers. That would have been extra cute!

I also added some dark green throw pillows at the end of the table in my large dining chairs.

The Garland Centerpiece

I created this garland centerpiece for the dining table and added in pops of frosted greenery and red berry stems and frosted mistletoe stems. I also used frosted peonies and some pine cone picks in this wintery garland.

The holiday season is a great time to decorate your front porch and add some welcoming holiday decor. If you’re not sure where to begin, take a look at some of my outdoor Christmas decorating ideas for inspiration from both of my homes.

Start by adding a garland to the front door.

Adding wreaths or swags to the front doors, along with garland is always a great way to bring in a festive touch, and they’re so easy to add to your porch. I use silver command strip hooks to hang the wreaths and I use small nails to hang the garland above the doors. You can use fresh or faux greenery or both! In prefer to use faux garlands and wreaths at my Utah home because it’s a very dry climate and fresh evergreens dry out very quickly there. At my home in Washington where the weather is more humid, fresh evergreens last for months so I prefer to use fresh greenery at my home there. Be sure to add a few bows for a pop of color, and don’t forget the lights!

Christmas lights are the perfect way to add a touch of sparkle to your porch.

Add planters filled with fresh evergreens.

Here at my Utah home, I used some fresh evergreens to fill the front porch pot. I also added some sugar pine cones and some faux red berries stems to add some color. It’s okay to mix fresh and faux. I cut the greenery from my yard in Washington state where we have acres of evergreen trees! Would you believe I brought all these evergreen branches inside a suitcase and on the airplane to Utah? You can’t find greenery like this in Utah! My favorite evergreens to use are cedar and pine. They are the prettiest evergreens for your outdoor pots in my opinion and the easiest to use. There are many cedar and pine varieties too! Many nurseries and garden stores will sell evergreens.

Sams Club has fresh evergreen wreaths and garlands and they will ship them right to you! I’ll link them at the bottom of the post!

I also used three birch logs in the center of the pot to add some different textures to the pot. If you water the pot, the branches will last longer, especially if you live in a drier climate.

I snipped all these evergreens out of my yard in Washington and then I added in pine cones and fresh holly berry branches also cut from my yard.

In this pot at my Utah home I mixed fresh and faux again. I used these mini trees in the center, then added some fresh evergreens around the base of the mini tree. Last I added in some large sugar pine cones.

Add in a few special touches to tie it all together.

Add some pinecones to a box or bin. I like the cinnamon scented ones you can often find at the grocery store. I also like to add mini evergreen cypress trees to the porch. I placed them into some Galvinized metal cans.

Here I added a grapevine reindeer and some faux poinsettias in a galvanized metal can.

I added a wreath on the front pillars leading up the front porch then added a red velvet ribbon to the wreath.

Here I added some evergreens to my front porch pots. I push the evergreen branches into the dirt and arrange them from shortest to tallest. Then I added some holly berries for a pop of red color. I also added a large metal bell donned with red rope. No matter how you choose to decorate your porch, these outdoor Christmas decorating ideas will help you create a festive and inviting space for your guests.

It’s the most wonderful time of the year! Let’s get into the holiday spirit by creating a beautiful Christmas tablescape. This year, set the scene for holiday cheer with this inspiration.

The Perfect Christmas Tablescape Centerpiece

Cedar Garland // Cedar Pinecone Garland // Snowed Eucalyptus Leaf Spray // White Snowed Peony Spray // Iced Berry Pick

Your tablescape should start with a stunning centerpiece. I like to make a centerpiece garland that goes down the middle of the table. This adds a beautiful element to the table but also allows for easy conversation with the people sitting across from you.

I layer greenery onto the center of the table, then I layer in different frosted greenery stems, frosted berries, frosted peony faux flowers, and pine cones into the garland.

You could also add red taper candles and wood candle holders to add height and a pop of color. Don’t forget to light the candles when dinner is ready!

The Elegant Christmas Silverware

Use your best china or something festive like these holly and ivy dishes and your finest silverware for a touch of elegance. Top off each place setting with a napkin ring. I used these reindeer napkins rings but it would have been even cuter if I had been able find something holly or evergreen branches. For an extra pop of color, try using green or red napkins.

The Charming Christmas Place Settings

With just a few simple supplies, you can create a charming Christmas tablescape that will impress your guests and get everyone into the holiday spirit.

A key element of any Christmas tablescape is the Christmas plates. One simple way to dress up your Christmas table is by stacking plates in an interesting way.

To create a charming Christmas tablescape, start by stacking plates of different sizes and patterns.

I bought these dishes at Homegoods in 2020 and probably are not available any longer. I will share similar options.

I like to start the base of my place setting with a placemat or a charger like this natural one you see above.

For a festive touch, try using Christmas-themed plates or patterned plates in coordinating colors.

Next, layer your plates with the largest at the bottom. You can decide if you’d rather have your napkins in between the plates.

Or on the side of the place setting using a napkin ring.

Another fun idea is to make each place setting special by setting out a small gift for each guest. Place the gifts on top of the plate or off to the left side above the plates.

Not sure what to give? A scented candles some chocolates or candy, an ornament, or something that the person will love. Make it personal if you like.

The Little Christmas Table Details

The beauty lies in the details and the best Christmas tablescapes usually have some added details. Let’s take a closer look at a few of my additions.

I added green throw pillows to the main chairs to bring in more of the green color to tie in with the napkins.

I added these little Christmas house salt and pepper shakers. They are great to put at each end of the table if you have a large table like I do and they help fill any gaps on the table.

I also love to add a cake or dessert on a cake stand as part of my centerpiece accents as well.

This Christmas, create a beautiful tablescape that will impress your guests and get everyone into the holiday spirit! With a little bit of planning, your Christmas feast will be remembered for years to come!

Give your kitchen a little holiday makeover this year with some easy and elegant Christmas kitchen decor ideas.

1. Add a simple wreath to the range hood.

This will add a touch of green and Christmas cheer to your kitchen.

2. Add ribbon and a small wreath in your Christmas color scheme to the backs of your chairs.

To add the wreaths to the back of my barstools, I layered a small cedar wreath under a frosted pip berry wreath then wired them together then I tied ribbon around the chair and tied a double knot with extra left over to hang down about 10″. Then I wired the double stacked wreaths to the ribbon.

3. Add a wreath with ribbon to your pantry door.

I took a large wreath and wired the same ribbon I used in my tree and barstools to the bottom of the wreath. Then I used a command strip hook to hang it on the pantry door.

4. Add a wintery mix of stems and greenery in a large vase or ginger jar.

I made this wintery flower arrangement for the center of the island. I used white frosted peonies, red frosted pip berry greenery, and frosted eucalyptus to make this flower arrangement.

5. Switch out your everyday dishes with festive ones.

This is an easy way to change up your decor for the holiday season.

6. Decorate with vintage Christmas trucks.

I set a table using these cute red truck dessert plates from Cracker Barrel and added the extras throughout the kitchen to carry that them over from the dining room.

7. Add wooden trees to your open shelves.

If you have open shelving or open counter space, you can use decorative items like these wood trees to add a pop of color.

8. Add wooden Christmas words to a cake stand.

This is a fun way to add color, as well as different decorative elements to a space. I have a lot of white in my kitchen so the red and greens really pop!

9. Don’t forget to add in some festive baking utensils.

This year, give your kitchen a little holiday makeover with these easy and elegant Christmas kitchen decor ideas. You can add pops of red and green with simple touches like wreaths, ribbon, and festive dishes. Next, Holliday created this second tablescape for another holiday party she was hosting and continued with the same snowflake-theme but mixed it up to coordinate with the mixed metallic color palette. To Have to Host

Lory created two different holiday tables. The first was for her husbands office party. She shares how there is something appealing about the way people in Scandinavia decorate for the holidays. Her Nordic Christmas Table is elegantly minimalist, yet still festive. I am part Danish and Swedish so this table really speaks to me. She used fresh greenery, twigs, branches, and antler candlesticks for the centerpiece. She finishes it off with some silver mercury glass votive candles. Home with Holly J

This past week I shared my Christmas Home Tour and how I decked out my Highland, Utah home for the holidays. I hosted a few parties including a progressive dinner and my first annual cookie exchange. Living Room

Today I’m sharing the parts of my home that I decorated for Christmas in the Highland home. Christmas is a special time of year and the tree is my favorite thing. I’ve always enjoyed decorating for the holidays and I love the warmth it creates in my home. At night when the tree is all lit up, there’s a special feeling that is created. Every year I look forward to decorating the house and creating memories with my family.

In the living room, I decorated my 10′ flocked long needle pine tree and used different shades of blue, silver, and ivory ornaments to match the other furnishings in the room. The mantle is a garland filled with blueberry picks, white hydrangeas and other greenery. It’s so pretty at night when all the christmas lights are on!

For the stair railing, I used a green garland on the stair rail and then wired ribbon into the garland. I added the same blueberry picks used in the tree and mantle. 

Kitchen and Dining Room

For the kitchen area, I wired the small wreaths onto ribbon wrapped around the barstools. For the island, I made a flower arrangement out of faux flowers and a mix of faux greens. I hung a simple wreath with the same ribbon above the stove on the hood. I put away my fall dishes and replaced them with some of my blue dishes. Having the different shades of blue on the open shelves goes well with the different shades of blue I used in all the Christmas decor.

I created the tablescape with my everyday blue dishes and silver accents. I made a garland with faux cedar, frosted eucalyptus picks and then placed silver ornaments and votive candles into it. 

Family Room

In the family room, I added in some green colors this year. I had a lot of green and brown ornaments that I didn’t use in the big tree so I found a way to use them on the smaller tree. For the tree, I used my slim, 6.5 flocked tree and filled it with green, white, and brown ornaments. I kept things more simple on this tree. For the mantle, I had to find a way not to block the TV and sound bar to keep my husband and boys happy. The solution was to drape the garland down a little in the middle. It’s not my favorite look, but it was a good compromise! The garland is a base green garland with frosted pine picks and white berries tucked in at an angle. Stockings are on one side and a few larger ornaments hang down on the opposite side. I just love Decorating For The Holidays.

Outdoor Decor

On the front door I used the same ribbon on the wreaths that I used indoors and added in some juniper berry picks to the wreaths. These were the same wreaths I used last year but with a few small changes, they look totally new!

I took out the pumpkins from the obelisks in the flower posts and filled them up with pine cones.  I added a wreath and some ribbon to the top and cut fresh juniper from the trees in my yard and filled that in around the base of the obelisks. I had to wrap wire around the obelisks to keep the pinecones from falling-out. Turns out they shrink when they get wet and cold! 

Entryway

In the entryway, I put more greenery in the big ginger jar, put up my “Have a Holly Jolly Christmas” sign and added some reindeer and the gold merry christmas sign.

Hot Chocolate Bar

I make my own hot chocolate mix every year to give out as gifts to neighbors and friends. I also like to have a hot chocolate bar for anyone who wants a hot cup of cocoa now that its quite cold here in Utah!

Decorating For The Holidays

I have always loved Christmas trees! When I was in my early twenties, I went to the most amazing Christmas party in Seattle on Queen Anne Hill where the houses are old and so charming. The lady whose home it was at had a Christmas tree in each room of her house. Each tree was different and matched the colors and decor of the room. She had used live trees in different shapes and sizes but each was unique and beautifully decorated. I remember thinking I wanted to do that someday when I had a home of my own. I have collected trees and ornaments over the years, but I’m still far away from having a tree in every room. Keep scrolling to see tips on decorating a Christmas tree!

Every year I reuse the same decorations and ornaments but I’ll add in a new color or use the ornaments on my other tree. I’m showing last years trees and this years so you can see how I changed it up. I bought a few new ornaments and decorations for this year, but I mainly reused what I already had.  You don’t have to go out and buy all new ornaments or things to decorate your tree each year. Be creative! You’ll be amazed at how different each tree looks with just a few minor changes.

In my Highland home in Utah, I put up two trees. The main one in the living room is a 10′ flocked long needle pine. Last year I used green cedar branches, blue, ivory, and green ornaments and light blue ribbon. This year I took all the green colored items out and used more blue ornaments in different shades and some ivory and cream colored ornaments. I added in a blue plaid ribbon and a thin teal colored velvet ribbon. I didn’t add much, but the trees look so different with just a few small changes.

I put up a slim, 6 1/2 foot flocked tree in our family room.  Last year I used some robins egg blue and brown ornaments that I had used on a tree in my Ravensdale home. I have so many shades of blue in the Highland house and knew these would work well with the family room tree.

To change it up, this year I took out all the robins egg blue ornaments and added in some brown wooden ornaments and the green ornaments that had been in the big tree last year.  I reused the cedar branches in the big living room mantel too. I love both of these trees and can’t decide which one I like better!

Most of what I used in this smaller tree came from the 2017 big tree. It was as if I had all new stuff! I used all the brown ornaments from the small tree and I love how the hunter green and brown look together. I tied it all into the mantel by using the same shades of green in the garland.

I hope you enjoyed seeing both trees from two different years.  It’s fun to experiment and use what you already have.  Next year I’m thinking of adding in some blush pink or maybe some reds!  Who knows what I’ll do but I will never get tired of decorating christmas trees!
