Entryway and Front Porch Decor

I loved the pumpkin tower obelisks that I created last season so I decided to use them again with a slight change. Instead of using larger pumpkins at the base, I used small pumpkins and gourds. If you’d like to see last seasons decor post click here: Fall Home Tour -Highland House

I planted mums and other perennials in the pots with the pumpkin towers and flower pots by the front door.

Indoor Entryway

For the entryway I created a floral arrangement in a blue and white ginger jar with dark blue, burnt orange, and ivory flowers.

I bought these furry ivory pumpkins at Gatehouse No1 in Orem Utah. They are so soft!

The Living Room

I created another floral arrangement in another blue and white ginger jar to correspond with the one in the entryway and put it up on the mantle over the fireplace.

I changed out the throw pillows on the sofa for these inexpensive mustard colored throw pillows and restyled the coffee table.

Below are two versions of utilizing these beautiful ginger jars from Lauren Haskell Designs. In the first photo I used fresh flowers. In the second I used faux. I enjoy changing things up throughout the season.

Fall Home Tour -The Kitchen

The kitchen is the heart of the home and its so much fun adding in some fall color into this space. The open shelves make it easy to change out my dishes for every season.

First, I tied four ivory berry wreaths to the backs of the barstools with some ribbon and added a vase filled with faux flowers to the island. I like using faux flowers because I can use them over and over again especially when certain flowers are not in season.

One of the reasons I like to decorate with the color blue is that it goes so well with everything. There are so many shades that you can use.

I tend to start adding things and then add more as we continue into fall. I like how I can use this darker blue as well as the lighter shade of blue with the orange.

I brought in some yellows and other fall colors this year that mixed well with the orange and blue. I really liked this antique vase I found at Highland Gardens and I filled it with flowers from Afloral. (I’ll share links and info below)

One of my favorite things to decorate for fall with is velvet pumpkins. I just love them! I have them in many colors and all around the house. One of my favorite things to use them in are my tablescapes and they also look great in a bowl or compote.

Pumpkin Tablescape

If you’ve followed me for awhile, you’ll know how much I love a beautifully set table. Every fall I like to make at least one pumpkin tablescape. I really loved last years pumpkin tablescape and wasn’t sure I could top it. I had planned to reverse the dishes from last year and add some other things that would make it different but when I was putting it all together, I had a thought to add the blue plates in with the orange. I think I like this one as much as I did last years! What do you think?

I had these fun paper placemats that I bought last year and they were a perfect match for the orange colored dishes.

For the garland centerpiece, I started with two base green garlands. I layered fall colored leaf stems, berry picks and sage greenery picks. Last I added in the blueberry picks and velvet pumpkins.

I also did a version without the bowls on top. Which do you like best? I like the bowls because it adds some height to the place-setting and make the blue the focus but I also like it without and the orange plates get to be the star. It is actually prettier in person. I don’t think my photos did it justice!

One of my favorite online Etsy shops is Teal Barn Signs. I love all the unique designs, colors, and sizes they offer. The inspiration behind this tablescape came from this pumpkin sign they sent me. (linked in the slider bar under sources as the bottom of the post)

Under the sign I added more velvet pumpkins and a metal can filled with faux leaf stems on top of an old crate.

Master Bedroom

I didn’t do a lot to the master bedroom except I added another blanket for warmth since the nights are getting colder. I also bought new sheets that were sea salt colored. I changed out the throw blankets and end blanket. I find rotating these type of things can give your room the feel of a mini makeover without breaking the bank.

Of course, I added velvet pumpkins and restyled the gold tray with them and a new sea salt glass vase and some green sage.

I added some new flowers and more velvet pumpkins on the dresser and night stands.

Guest Room

I refreshed the blue guest room with a beautiful bathrobe for guests to use when they come to stay. My favorite go to for cozy robes and throw blankets is Keiki Co.

It’s a nice addition to any guest room! I also added one to the grey guest room that is white and shorter. You have to check out their website to see all the great options and colors.

Fifty Shades of Blue Guest Room Reveal

I’m finally sharing one of our guest rooms that we call the “blue” room. When we first moved into the Highland house, we somehow named each bedroom by color. This room had blue wallpaper and was a baby boy’s nursery so it naturally became the blue room. There is a lot of blue going on in here so that’s why I’ve called it the fifty shades of blue guest room reveal.

It took me awhile to share this room because it’s usually being used by one of the kids home from college or guests. We jokingly call our Utah house the Holly Hotel because we have a lot of family and friends that come to stay.

There is a Jack and Jill bathroom between the blue room and what I call the “gray room” on the other side.

Guest Room Reveal -Blue and White Bedding

I bought this dark navy duvet for the top blanket and a quilted white blanket to go underneath. I usually keep a heavier blanket on top that can easily be folded down for when it’s warmer weather and a lighter blanket underneath for those that like to sleep a little cooler.

One thing I always use is a mattress cover underneath the sheets and pillow covers that go over the top of the pillow and under the pillow case. This way the pillows and mattress stay cleaner. I always have a throw blanket at the end of the bed and a few more in a basket nearby.

I always have a lot of throw pillows on my bed. I’m pretty sure some of my guests are overwhelmed by this as I’m teased on occasion. If they only knew that I have a pillow and throw blanket closet! There are actually three Euro Pillow Shams for this bed but after taking the photos I realized I had stolen one for another bed in another room! Oh well! I can’t always have everything perfect right!

Blue and Gold Decor Accents

I had a hard time finding the right artwork for this room because the walls are a little quirky and there’s a lot going on with the pattern in the wallpaper. A company called Mapiful reached out to me and asked if I would like one of their unique maps. When I looked at their website, I knew exactly what map I wanted and where I would put it.

It was so easy to create this map on Mapiful’s website. I chose a blue print color and a place that is special to me. My fathers side of the family is from Denmark and I’ve spent a lot of time there. When I have visited Denmark, I’ve felt a connection to it and this was a special way to remember how special it is to me.

I took the print to my local framing store and had it matted and framed. It was supposed to be in a gold frame but when I went to pick it up, it wasn’t what I’d ordered. It was a little darker in color but I think I actually like it since the bed is dark brown ties them together. I probably could have gone a little bigger on the frame but I do love how the map turned out and I love that it’s sentimental.

I found this cute little pouff at a local store in Utah called Highland Gardens. I had been looking for something leather and a darker brown to go in this space and as soon as I saw this pouff, I knew it was perfect.

I put this off white dresser in the room (it’s twin is in the gray room on the other side of the bathroom) and added a faux flower arrangement, some blue books and a gold metal basket with blue and white porcelain balls.

Lighting and Window Treatments

The gold pendant was installed by the previous owners and I love it. This same pendant light is also in the master bathroom. I think its the perfect light for this room and space.

I put two blue lamps with gold trim on the night stands. I searched for these lamps for over a year and finally found the perfect fit! I always like to have a nice scented candle and a little bud vase with fresh flowers.

The windows upstairs in our home are all arched which is a challenge for window treatments. This blind was installed before we moved in but after doing some research, I discovered that any kind of custom fabric blind for this size of a window was about a thousand dollars per window! Yikes!

This was the preferred guest room for awhile since it was the only room upstairs with a blind! Everyone who is a frequent visitor to the Holly Hotel are quite happy that there are now blinds in all the upstairs rooms, especially the bathroom!

The last thing I added to the blue room was this blue and white rug. I’m still not sure that I like it. There’s a lot of different patterns going on and it may be a little too busy but I’m leaving it for now. I’m sure I’ll find something I like better before long.

I have bought some nice picture frames and that’s all I’m missing for now. I’m notorious for not putting photos in picture frames! I have a stack that need photos in them but this always seems to get knocked down to the bottom of the my to-do list. I think family photos in a nice frame bring warmth to any room.

Living Room

Today I’m sharing the parts of my home that I decorated for Christmas in the Highland home. Christmas is a special time of year and the tree is my favorite thing. I’ve always enjoyed decorating for the holidays and I love the warmth it creates in my home. At night when the tree is all lit up, there’s a special feeling that is created. Every year I look forward to decorating the house and creating memories with my family.

In the living room, I decorated my 10′ flocked long needle pine tree and used different shades of blue, silver, and ivory ornaments to match the other furnishings in the room. The mantle is a garland filled with blueberry picks, white hydrangeas and other greenery. It’s so pretty at night when all the christmas lights are on!

For the stair railing, I used a green garland on the stair rail and then wired ribbon into the garland. I added the same blueberry picks used in the tree and mantle. 

Kitchen and Dining Room

For the kitchen area, I wired the small wreaths onto ribbon wrapped around the barstools. For the island, I made a flower arrangement out of faux flowers and a mix of faux greens. I hung a simple wreath with the same ribbon above the stove on the hood. I put away my fall dishes and replaced them with some of my blue dishes. Having the different shades of blue on the open shelves goes well with the different shades of blue I used in all the Christmas decor.

I created the tablescape with my everyday blue dishes and silver accents. I made a garland with faux cedar, frosted eucalyptus picks and then placed silver ornaments and votive candles into it. 

Family Room

In the family room, I added in some green colors this year. I had a lot of green and brown ornaments that I didn’t use in the big tree so I found a way to use them on the smaller tree. For the tree, I used my slim, 6.5 flocked tree and filled it with green, white, and brown ornaments. I kept things more simple on this tree. For the mantle, I had to find a way not to block the TV and sound bar to keep my husband and boys happy. The solution was to drape the garland down a little in the middle. It’s not my favorite look, but it was a good compromise! The garland is a base green garland with frosted pine picks and white berries tucked in at an angle. Stockings are on one side and a few larger ornaments hang down on the opposite side. I just love Decorating For The Holidays.

Outdoor Decor

On the front door I used the same ribbon on the wreaths that I used indoors and added in some juniper berry picks to the wreaths. These were the same wreaths I used last year but with a few small changes, they look totally new!

I took out the pumpkins from the obelisks in the flower posts and filled them up with pine cones.  I added a wreath and some ribbon to the top and cut fresh juniper from the trees in my yard and filled that in around the base of the obelisks. I had to wrap wire around the obelisks to keep the pinecones from falling-out. Turns out they shrink when they get wet and cold! 

Entryway

In the entryway, I put more greenery in the big ginger jar, put up my “Have a Holly Jolly Christmas” sign and added some reindeer and the gold merry christmas sign.

Hot Chocolate Bar

I make my own hot chocolate mix every year to give out as gifts to neighbors and friends. I also like to have a hot chocolate bar for anyone who wants a hot cup of cocoa now that its quite cold here in Utah!
